As part of its efforts make its resources and programs more accessible to members of the Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities, the American School of Classical Studies at Athens is asking for help in its initial funding for a fellowship honoring William Sanders Scarborough. Born a slave in Macon Georgia, Professor Scarborough later graduated from Oberlin College (class of 1875), served as president of Wilberforce University (1908-1920), and was the author of a Greek textbook, “First Lessons in Greek” (now back in print with Bolchazy). Further information about the fellowship can be found here; and the donation form can be found at this link.
