The Department of Classics at the University of Cincinnati would like to invite teachers of AP Latin in the Cincinnati region to a half-day workshop on the AP texts on Saturday April 25th 2015. The venue will be Blegen Library on the UC Campus.
At the workshop, scholars of Latin Literature and Roman History will present on the AP texts – Virgil and Caesar – and teachers will have the chance to get to know the Classics department at UC better. The presentations aim to connect teachers with recent scholarly thinking on the AP texts and to provide materials to enrich their teaching of the Latin texts. There will be a chance to discuss selected passages from the set texts with fellow teachers and the UC faculty. The department will provide morning refreshments and there will be a lunch with university faculty at the end of the workshop.
Schedule:
9.15-9.45am: Arrival and Sign-in.
Coffee and light refreshments will be available.
9.45-10am: Welcome to the Department (by Head).
10-11am: Virgil’s Aeneid, the AP selections: Presentation and Discussion led by Prof. Daniel Markovic.
11am-12pm: Caesar’s Gallic War, the AP selections: Presentation and Discussion led by Prof. Duncan MacRae.
12-1pm: Lunch with UC Classics Faculty.
1pm-1.30pm: Presentation of UC Classics department and Undergraduate Semple Scholarships (by Daniel Markovic); tour of the Library (Jacquie Riley).
