R.I.P, Thelma Slater (1921-2013)

It is with great sadness that OCC passes on the message that Thelma Slater, a dear friend of the classics, passed away several days ago.  More information can be found here.  In 2004, she had set up at endowed lecture for classical studies at her alma mater, Mount Union College.  Her son is Niall W. Slater, Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Greek and Latin at Emory University.

The Thelma Tournay Slater Classics Lecture at Univ. of Mount Union was made possible through a gift of Thelma E. (Tournay, class of’42) Slater. Her lifelong passion for the classics began at Mount Union. The gift supports student enrichment through an increased appreciation of the civilization and cultural achievements of ancient Greek and Rome that stand at the core of a liberal arts education.
