The Vergilian Society is offering exciting study tours in summer 2020 including Greeks and Romans on the Bay of Naples; Roman Switzerland; Drawing and Watercolor in the Italian Landscape; Roman Otium on the Bay of Naples: A Study Tour for Teachers. Malta is also on offer for winter 2020-21. These programs are specifically designed to benefit and appeal to teachers and students at all levels by providing them the opportunity to experience a rich variety of ancient sites to support their own understanding and teaching of the ancient world. Professor Mark P. O. Morford, of Leeds, died Monday October 14, 2019 at the Hospice of the Fisher Home after a brief illness. He was 90 years old.
Professor Morford taught at The Ohio State University from 1964 to 1984, serving as Chairman of the Department of Classics from 1968 to 1980.
A distinguished author, Mark wrote several books including Lucan; Persius; Stoics and Neostoics: Justus Lipsius and the Circle of Rubens; and of particular note, with Robert Lenardon and Michael Sham, Classical Mythology, the 11thedition of which was released last year.

On November 8th, 2019, Xavier University will be hosting the John W. Rettig Lecture Series. This year’s speaker is Rev. Bryan Y. Norton, S.J., whose lecture is entitled, “The Jesuit Classical Tradition: Past Perspectives, Contemporary Questions, Future Horizons.” The talk will be held at 5:00 pm in the Kennedy Auditorium, Conaton Learning commons 412 with a reception to follow.
